Produced by the team that brought you the hit documentary PlantPure Nation, the award-winning film, From Food to Freedom, tells the story of a live-in immersion program in a rented house in Greensboro, NC with six participants (and two spouses) diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. The 10-day program includes biometric testing, physician supervision, and daily meals. As we go through the immersion, we hear from participants of their past struggles living with such a dreaded disease, and we hear of their hope for a better life. We watch firsthand as they suddenly change their diet from a standard American diet to a whole food plant-based diet, and we see how this leads to unexpected and astounding results. This story creates the opportunity for powerful digressions into the topics of nutrition, chronic disease, and immunity. Also examined is the role of government and the media in suppressing one of the important truths of our time. After catching up with immersion participants six months later, and seeing some of the challenges they face back in the real world, the film ends on an inspiring note, opening our eyes to the possibility of transformational change in society and charting a hopeful pathway for people wanting to live free of disease and costly pharmaceuticals.
